In Queensland the Child Protection Act 1999 is the legal framework guiding Child Safety Services in child protection.

These laws aim to protection children who have been harmed, or are at risk of harm. If the Department of Child Safety believes your child has been, or is being or is at risk of being harmed they may:

• ask you to enter into a voluntary agreement;
• remove your child from your care;
• apply for an assessment order; or
• apply for a child protection order.
